This is the first degree of its kind in Australia. Students combine art and science skills to specialize in the areas of dental technology practice. Dental technicians work in an integrated environment within the other dental professions, and they are responsible for performing the dental laboratorial components used by dentists such as dentures, crowns, bridges and other devices needed in all areas of dentistry. The Dental Technology program is a professional program with no patient contact and involves extensive laboratory work from the first year of the program. The Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Technology program requires students to have an aptitude for and particular interest in dental laboratory work. The Bachelor of Health Science contains introductory science-based content that is more in line with the Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science program.
