The study of nutrition and dietetics focuses on human nutrition in our communities in relation to the treatment and prevention of diet related diseases. This program prepares students for accreditation as a dietitian without postgraduate study. It This course provides students with a range of skills in the health sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry) before completing the more advanced study of human nutrition. Students will also be able to apply knowledge of nutrition to professional practice in the areas of clinical dietetics, food service management and community and public health nutrition in both private and public industry.
The University has sought advice from the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) regarding the processes for the accreditation of the dietetic program. Graduates of a DAA accredited program become eligible to become full members of DAA, and join the Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) Program. The University is planning to submit an accreditation review report within the required timelines. The University's aim is to achieve accreditation prior to graduation of the first cohort of students.
After pursuing this degree from Griffith university students will be well positioned to work as a dietitian/nutritionist in private and public hospitals, community health services, health promotion and public health units and/or in private practice, health service management and the food and pharmaceutical industries.
A minimum overall band score of 7.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.5, a minimum score of 580 on TOEFL or an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 92 (no score less than 22). English test results must be no more than two years old.
