The Diploma of Higher Education Studies is a pathway programme to a degree in one of following areas: Arts and Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Information Technology or Science. On completion of the DHES (Diploma of Higher Education Studies) and the relevant degree there are many career paths available. Graduates of the DHES (Diploma of Higher Education Studies) Arts and social science stream and the Bachelor of Arts (Social Science) and the stream of subjects students choose in their arts degree may guide them towards a particular career. Monash arts graduates are working in fields such as journalism, publishing, editing, writing, electronic media, public relations, corporate communications, marketing, advertising, business research and analysis, management consulting, international trade, human resources, training and development, management and administration, diplomacy, foreign affairs, politics, social and community services, counselling, social welfare, social research, policy and planning Graduates of the DHES (Diploma of Higher Education Studies) business stream and the Bachelor of Business and Commerce and depending on the area of major study undertaken, graduates can work in many occupations, including financial analyst and human resources officer, as well as in marketing, accountancy, international trade, administration and advertising. Graduates of the DHES(Diploma of Higher Education Studies) IT stream and the Bachelor of IT and Systems degree enter a variety of roles such as Specialist programmer, Systems analyst, Business analyst, Database administrator, Games developer, Multimedia developer, IT Consultant. Arts studies will give students the lasting skills that will help in any career, including the ability to research an issue, analyze information, and communicate clearly.
Good business skills and general knowledge.
All applicants should note that the English and mathematics prerequisites for the courses must be satisfied. Students with at least a distinction average in a relevant TAFE diploma or advanced diploma may apply. Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. A study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in English other than EAL and a study score of at least 25 in one of Mathematical Methods (CAS) or Specialist Mathematics is required.
A Bachelor of Arts (Global) and Bachelor of Commerce allows graduates to satisfy the educational requirements of various professional registrations and memberships.
Graduates from this double degree will have well-rounded commerce skills, and employers will be even more interested in someone with overseas study experience. Our graduates work all over the world. They work in banking, politics, diplomacy, media, international relations, insurance and marketing. They work for the government, major corporations and themselves. The range of career options depends on the subjects chosen but, given we offer a double major with the bonus of overseas study experience, graduates will be able to explore many career paths. Roles that graduates can pursue include diplomat in an overseas embassy, English language translator for a government department, operations manager for a small-to-medium enterprise, marketing consultant in a large corporation, economics advisor to a government minister, market researcher for a media company, communications advisor for a federal or state government department, technical writer for a business or finance company, or business analyst for a bank or financial institution.
