Biomedical science is one of the most influential areas of medicine. This course covers a range of vital areas, and has increased our understanding of the human body and the fundamentals of illness and disease. Our program will give a specialized training in the full spectrum of biomedical science areas, which include molecular biology, human genetics, immunology and neurobiology. Students will also benefit from our affiliation with several renowned research facilities, including the Burnet Institute, Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute, and the Prince Henry's Institute. Commerce is the cornerstone of the modern economy. This course relates to the economic, political, legal, social, cultural, and technological activities that impact on commercial interactions around the world. Our degree offers a world-class education across a wide range of commerce areas. The biomedical science component consists of 16 units from the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, two of which are electives. The commerce component consists of six core commerce units, an eight-unit commerce major, and additional units in the Bachelor of Commerce at Clayton campus to reach the required minimum of 16 units.

Major studies include gaining of skills, knowledge and key theoretical insights required to work effectively within an extensive range of professional scientific environments is studied.
A Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Commerce allows graduates to satisfy the educational requirements of various professional registrations and memberships.
Graduates from this double degree will have a sought-after combination of biomedical science and commerce skills. Our graduates work all over the world. Students will get work in banking, finance, biotechnology, pharmaceutical research, diagnostics, medical product development and management. They work for the government, laboratories and major corporations. The range of career options depends on the subjects chosen but, given we offer biomedical science and commerce specializations, graduates will be able to explore many career paths. Roles that graduates can pursue include pharmaceutical researcher at a university, medical product developer for a large corporation, operations manager at a pharmaceutical company, business analyst in a bank or consulting firm, or economic advisor to a government minister.
