The Graduate Diploma of Nursing comprises the second level of the Master of Clinical Nursing program. Students may exit with a Graduate Diploma or apply to continue within the program and complete a Master of Clinical Nursing qualification.With the exceptions of Child and Family Health Nursing and Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing all specialisations are offered completely online. In most specialisations, students must have access to clinical practice in the specialty area. Please note that graduate programs are offered subject to student demand and the availability of School of Nursing and Midwifery resources.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery aims to create an educational environment that values critical reflective thinking,lifelong learning and professional development. The Graduate Diploma of Nursing prepares registered nurses for specialist practice in a variety of clinical areas such as Acute Care Nursing,Aged Care Nursing,Anaesthetics and Recovery Nursing,Cardiovascular Nursing,Child and Family Health Nursing,Clinical Nursing and Teaching, Community Health Nursing,Critical Care Nursing, Emergency Nursing,General Practice Nursing,Immigration Nursing,Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing, Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing,Neuroscience Nursing,Oncology Nursing,Orthopaedic Nursing, Paediatric Nursing,Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing,Palliative Care Nursing, Perioperative Nursing, Rehabilitation Nursing,Renal Nursing,Rural/Remote Nursing,Special Care of the Newborn Nursing.
An applicant must be a registered nurse in Australia, or if an overseas applicant, have had his/her nursing qualifications assessed by the Nursing and Midwifery - Board of Australia - and be eligible for registration in Australia, and normally have had at least two years of full-time experience in relevant nursing practice within the last two years (or equivalent); hold an undergraduate degree in nursing with a grade point average of at least a credit (or equivalent); or have qualifications or experience deemed to be the equivalent of one of the above.Students enrolled in specialisations which include clinical placements must demonstrate compliance with the Faculty of Health Science and the School of Nursing and Midwifery policies relevant to workplace based learning.
The Graduate Certificate in Nursing articulates to the Graduate Diploma of Nursing and the Master of Clinical Nursing. The graduates may become eligible for membership with the Australian Practice Nurses Association.
Students completing specialist strands within the Graduate Diploma are likely to gain employment within that specialist area. Students may articulate from the Graduate Certificate in Nursing to the Graduate Diploma of Nursing. Students may also articulate from the Graduate Diploma of Nursing to the Master of Clinical Nursing.
