The School of Nursing and Midwifery, in collaboration with cooperating Health Care Agencies, aims to create an educational environment which values critical, reflective thinking, life-long learning, acquisition of generic attributes and professional development, though the specialties are diverse with the course specific ojectives compared to that of the Bachelor of Nursing Professional Honours,the generic program ojectives are to enhance the needs and demands of the nursing discipline main backgrounds in today’s world.
General knowledge and importance of Nursing in Medical Field.
The main purpose of the course is designed to enable students to work as registered nurses in specialised practice settings; to allow students to develop nursing knowledge and skills in their specialty;enhancing students' advanced critical thinking and clinical decision making in their specialty nursing discipline; to build students' capacity to engage as clinical specialists through research and evidence based practice; to encourage student interest and engagement in the professional growth of their discipline, and to develop students' ability to communicate effectively with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
An applicant must be a registered nurse in Australia, or if an overseas applicant, have had his/her nursing qualifications assessed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and be eligible for registration in Australia, and normally have had at least six months of full-time experience in relevant nursing practice within the last two years (or equivalent) to hold an undergraduate degree in nursing with a grade point average of at least a credit (or equivalent); or have qualifications or experience deemed to be the equivalent of one of the above.The students enrolled in specialisations which include clinical placements must demonstrate compliance with the Faculty of Health Science and the School of Nursing and Midwifery policies relevant to workplace based learning.
The Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours (Specialty) will receive the same professional recognition from specialist colleges and other nursing organisations and bodies that the Graduate Certificate in Nursing and the GraduateDiploma of Nursing receive. The graduates from the BNProfHons (Specialty) will receive the same financial qualification allowance as graduates from the Graduate Certificate in Nursing and the Graduate Diploma of Nursing.Articulation to or from the course the Bachelor of Nursing with Professional Honours (Specialty) articulates directly with the Master of Clinical Nursing. The course is not designed to articulate with the research Master of Nursing. The graduates may become eligible for membership with the Australian Practice Nurses Association.
The graduates may find employment in specialty areas including acute care nursing, aged care nursing, anaesthetics and recovery nursing, cardiovascular nursing, child and family health nursing,clinical nursing and teaching, community health nursing, critical care nursing, emergency nursing, general practice nursing, immigration nursing, mental health/psychiatric nursing, neonatal intensive care nursing, neuroscience nursing, oncology nursing, paediatric nursing, paediatric intensive care nursing, perioperative nursing, rehabilitation nursing, renal nursing, rural and remote nursing and special care of the newborn nursing. Graduates are able to further their career development by progressing to a Master of Clinical Nursing or a research Master of Nursing. articulates directly with the Master of Clinical Nursing.
