The Master of Professional Accounting (Specialisation) is a two year full-time or four year part-time course of study offered by the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance in the Faculty of Business. Accounting is often cited as the language of business.The course involves the completion of 16 units of study, 12 core units and 4 units constituting a specialisation.This course offers participants from different academic and experiential backgrounds the opportunity to specialise in accounting for professional recognition purposes.People with accounting skills are in high demand in the business and corporate world.
General knowledge of Professional Accounting.
The prime focus of the course is vested in the promotion of knowledge and skills of accounting for the students to attain higher career paths. All units are subject to formal assessment including the completion of continuous assessment such as assignments, and a final examination.
The Faculty of Business may accept as a candidate for the Master of Professional Accounting (Specialisation) any of the following, a person with the equivalent of an undergraduate or masters degree in a non-accounting degree (international applications are subject to assessment for equivalency), OR a person with a four unit Graduate Certificate in Accounting, or equivalent, from an approved tertiary institution, OR, a person with approved relevant work experience or other special circumstances (e.g. post secondary qualifications) as approved by the Dean or delegated authority.For entry into all postgraduate courses, international students must provide an IELTS test score with a TOEFL score with a Test of Written English score.This test must not be more than 24 months old.At the discrition the Faculty may include interviews.
To become members of CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia ICAA and the National Institute of Accountants (NIA), students without an undergraduate or masters degree must complete a professionally accredited 16 unit masters level course. This course is accredited with the professional accounting bodies in Australia. Graduates of the MPAS will satisfy the educational requirements for associate membership of CPA Australia, the entry requirements at the ICAA and membership of the NIA.
After the successful completion of the course the students can embrace career areas such as Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship,Banking and Information Systems, Accounting, Assurance Services Taxation,Financial Management,Commerce and Industry,Government and Semi-Government Organisations,Accounting Education.The students upon completion of this course can articulate for Graduate Certificate in Professional Accounting,Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting,Master in Professional Accounting (only for students with an undergraduate or Masters degree).
