The GradDipPubPol aims to provide a quality tertiary qualification at the postgraduate level in a professional coursework program. The course aims to provide students with a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of public policy;skills to engage in informed debate about major public policy issues in contemporary society;knowledge of recent developments in the field;skills to conduct and appraise research critically.
General knowledge about public Policy.
The course aims to provide the graduates with a quality tertiary qualification at the postgraduate level in a professional coursework program. The course aims to provide students with a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of public policy;skills to engage in informed debate about major public policy issues in contemporary society;knowledge of recent developments in the field;skills to conduct and appraise research critically.
Students are normally expected to have a minimum of a bachelor degree from the University of Tasmania or from another university or tertiary institution which is deemed equivalent, and a level of English equivalent to a score of an IELTS test. In exceptional circumstances the Faculty may admit a person with some other tertiary qualification and relevant employment experience.Students seeking entry into postgraduate courses based on employment experience only (i.e. no bachelor degree), will generally only be allowed entry at Graduate Certificate level.Progression from Graduate Diploma to Masters requires results of Distinction average.Direct entry at Masters level will generally only be allowed if the student has achieved results of Distinction average at undergraduate level.International students who do not meet the requirements for direct entry at Masters level can obtain direct entry at Graduate Diploma level and package this with an offer for entry to Masters subject to achieving distinction average at Graduate Diploma level (if they meet the entry requirement for the Graduate Diploma).The initial enrolment will be in a Graduate Diploma and progression to Masters will only be allowed if students achieve a Distinction average at Graduate Diploma level.
The students may apply for credit for units passed in other courses (complete or incomplete).Students who undertake the GradDipPubPol may elect to complete the Research Thesis unit and achieve the Master of Public Policy. Students who terminate their studies after completing 50% of the coursework units (including the core unit) are eligible to achieve the Graduate Certificate in Public Policy. This course is accredited by the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA).
