The Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Counselling provides opportunities for graduates with a background in psychology or another area of human services, to undertake postgraduate study in rehabilitation counselling.
General knowledge about Rehabilitation Counselling.
This is a skills based course, and provides an opportunity to gain a qualification in counselling, as well as the option of further study in either rehabilitation counselling or counselling.
The requisites for admission are a Completion of a degree with a major in psychology or behavioural science, or a degree in an affiliated area, or other equivalent qualifications. In special cases candidates who do not satisfy the normal entry requirements but have completed the Graduate Certificate of Counselling and have relevant professional experience may be accepted for entry to the graduate diploma courses. Applicants will be interviewed and may be required to submit a professional statement including professional references, statement of intent, work history and a police records check.
The Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Counselling is accredited by the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors (ASORC) and accreditation has also been sought for the Master of Rehabilitation Counselling. Accreditation for the counselling program will be sought with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate of Counselling may be eligible for entry to the Graduate Diploma in Counselling or the Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Counselling.
Rehabilitation counsellors are employed in areas such as Vocational, Medical and Psychiatric Rehabilitation; Human Service areas, including Child and Family Services; and within the Criminal Justice System.
Minimum 1 year , maximum 2 years
