This graduate diploma meets the needs for professional development and advanced training for people working primarily in land based sciences (e.g. foresters, geographers, town planners, surveyors) who need to use spatial information science in their work or study).
General knowledge about Spatial Information Science.
The course aims to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and skills in areas of spatial information science; provide students with advanced knowledge in one of the disciplines of spatial information science; provides students with an opportunity for training in research; meet the needs of industry, business and government agencies for relevant spatial information skills.
Possession of a bachelor degree from the University of Tasmania, or an equivalent qualification from other recognised universities.
This course is accredited by the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (Australia); Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation Board.
Graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Spatial Information Science with Honours will find employment opportunities in Commonwealth or State Government agencies, Local Councils or Large Private Organisations, largely in Land-Based Sciences. Opportunities for such employment exist in a wide variety of areas such as Forestry, Environmental Management,Transport, Land Planning, Geodetic Agencies, Cadastral and Engineering Surveying. An articulation pathway is available from the Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems.
