The Master of Teaching is a 2-year course, taken after the completion of a first degree, in an area other than teaching or education. The course is intended to lay a foundation for further professional development in both theory and practice of education.This course offers an innovative qualification for teacher’s education program.The Master of Teaching is available externally, with the exception of the Design & Technology specialisation. The streams, and locations from which they are taught, are Primary (K-6), Secondary – Specialisations, Design & Technology, English-literacy, General Sciences, Information Technology, Languages other than English (LOTE), Mathematics,Multimedia, Performing Arts (Drama),Performing Arts (Music), Social Sciences, Visual Art.
General knowledge of Teaching.
Students who undertake the Master of Teaching pre-service teacher education course will graduate with a professional qualification and preparation that meets national expectations and standards and makes them favoured for recruitment in systems throughout Tasmania and Australia. Through experiencing an internationalised curriculum the students will graduate with a global perspective and an enhanced capacity to teach overseas and experience the world whilst working. The program is informed by core theoretical knowledge, evidence-based practice and underpinned by a strong theory-practice nexus enacted in collaboration with appropriate employing authorities.
The minimum entry requirement, for all students, is the completion of a Bachelor'sdegree in another discipline at an approved tertiary education institution. Specific entry requirements for the Primary and Secondary specialisations detailed below will confer capacity for employment nationally.This course is quota restricted.In addition to the aforementioned entry requirements, international students will require an overall IELTS score and DEAP overall( 70% in writing).
Students undertaking the Master of Teaching with previous study from the University of Tasmania or other approved institution, at the same level, will be granted credit in accordance with section 4.3. of Rule 3 Rules of Admission and Student Progress. This course is accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australian College of Teaching (WACOT).
The employment sectors for the graduates after successful completion of the course are in Policy Formation,Education Research,Assessment and Evaluation,Youth and Health Wellbeing,Industry Training, and Public Relations.
