This course is intended to provide students of other disciplines with training in the languages and background on cultural, political, economic, historical and social issues in the Asian region. This degree is interdisciplinary, taking advantage of a range of units in relevant postgraduate courses including Education, History, Public Policy, Science and Technology Policy, International Business and Environmental Science.
Good knowledge of history.
Development of skills related to cultural, political, economic, historical and social issues in the Asian region are included as major part of study.
This course is accredited by the Authority of Translation and Interpreters (NAATI): students may apply for exam for accreditation as a professional translator.
A degree in Asian Studies provides a broad base of knowledge that can be applied to any number of possible fields, including business, commerce, journalism, politics, publishing, the social sciences, and teaching at all levels. Some students go on to do postgraduate work in business or law, or continue in Asian Studies. As a second major, Asian Studies can open up new job possibilities at home and abroad for prospective engineers, health professionals, teachers, and writers of all types.
