The Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching GC(ULT) focuses on the development of teaching capability in Higher Education (HE). The program is designed to help both new and experienced University teachers develop a scholarly approach to teaching.The program draws ideas from practice as well as educational theory. It is designed to meet the needs of busy teachers from diverse teaching settings.Courses in the program include intensive face-to-face workshops that build on relevant readings and periods of structured independent learning. Courses are designed to promote collegial collaboration, be interactive and engaging,model a wide variety of good teaching practices,involve academics from a range of disciplines.
General knowledge about Learning and Teaching.
Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching graduates should be able to foster deep learning in higher education students through the application of theoretical knowledge of how students learn, and  theoretical and practical knowledge about teaching, assessment, evaluation and curriculum design, to engage with, and contribute to, the scholarship of teaching through critical reflection, research, peer review and publication, demonstrate leadership capacity in learning, teaching and mentoring.These objectives will be pursued through the provision of a flexibly structured program that allows for the needs and characteristics of different discipline fields and different groups with a teaching role.
Completion of a bachelor degree or equivalent. Applicants will be expected to be currently engaged in some form of undergraduate or postgraduate teaching activity in a university setting.
Credit for relevant units will be given to transferring students from similar programs at the University of Tasmania and other universities. This course will articulate with the Faculty of Education's Coursework Masters course. This course is accredited by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
This course aims to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills required to teach and support student learning in the higher education sector. Participants in the course will engage in critical examination of their roles and responsibilities in view of issues confronting learning and teaching in higher education nationally and internationally, their disciplines and professional practice. These include issues of particular relevance to learning and teaching at CSU such as blended and flexible learning, and professional and practice-based education.
