A Master of Architecture research degree enables a candidate to undertake a program of research and advanced study in a specialist field. All candidates for a Masters degree are also required to enrol concurrently in two units in the Graduate Certificate of Research.

The study of architecture covers a broad range of disciplines and skills., which means that architects may find a career in private architectural practice, government architectural offices, local government, performing arts, universities (as academics or in property management), and large companies. Architects may be engaged in a wide range of tasks: commercial, residential, retail and civic building design (conceptual and technical); client brief writing; urban design, planning appeal submissions, representation and assessment; stage set and exhibition design; and property and construction management. Many Australian graduates in architecture have established careers in various countries around the world.
Applicants should apply after finding a potential supervisor and discussing and agreeing on their proposed topic. Applicants will be considered who have an honours degree with at least second class lower standard; or a masters degree with a minimum research component (eg a thesis); or a substantial demonstrated sector experience, previous higher education studies and professional experience and/or published research work. International applicants must also meet the University's English language requirements for admission are an IELTS overall score, a minimum total score & together with a Test of Written English (TWE)  score on the paper based TOEFL,a minimum total score of the internet based TOEFL,PTE Academic 58 with no score lower than 50, completion of a course of study, of at least 2 years’ duration, from an accredited University in a country where English is an official language.The study must have been instructed and examined in English. Studies must have been completed within the last 2 years and evidence in the form of a letter or certificate issued by the university Registrar’s office will need to be provided.
The graduates from the Master of Architecture are eligible for registration as an architect following an approved practical experience program over two years and successful completion of the architectural practice registration examinations of the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA). The Master of Architecture is also recognised by the Commonwealth Association of Architects and this offers the opportunity for international recognition.
A Master of Architecture degree provides an entry to a doctorate at a university, and graduates are also highly sought after for positions across the spectrum of available careers. Master of Architecture graduates take up roles in areas such as architecture, urban design, planning, heritage and related government sectors, Private offices, Statutory bodies, Local authorities, Commercial development companies, Research organizations, Self-owned practices or partnerships.
