A Master of Nursing research degree enables a candidate to undertake a program of research and advanced study in a specialist field. A Masters degrees in nursing focuses on many different aspects of nursing and nursing care, for example: the contribution of nursing to the advancement of health and the health care system.All candidates for a Masters degree are also required to enrol concurrently in two units in the Graduate Certificate of Research.

This Masters degree program is specifically designed for graduates of any Bachelor of Nursing degree to enable them to extend their nursing knowledge and skills in a specialist setting. The Master of Nursing program offers a flexible, external method of study. The program provides the opportunity for students to complete a Master of Nursing, after successful completion of the course. Students are able to select from five fields of study for specialisation, including Children & Young People Health, Primary Health Care Nursing, Chronic Disease Management and Palliative Care, Gastroenterological Nursing, Rural & Remote Nursing, or use the generic Advanced Practice Nursing field.
Applicants should apply after finding a potential supervisor and discussing and agreeing on their proposed topic. Applicants will be considered who have an honours degree with at least second class lower standard; or a masters degree with a minimum research component (eg a thesis); or substantial demonstrated sector experience, previous higher education studies and professional experience and/or published research work. International applicants must also meet the University's English language requirements for admission are an IELTS overall score,a minimum total score together with a Test of Written English (TWE) score on the paper based TOEFL,a minimum total score together with a minimum score of the internet based TOEFL,PTE Academic 58 with no score lower than 50, completion of a course of study, of at least 2 yrs duration, from an accredited University in a country where English is an official language.The study must have been instructed and examined in English. Studies must have been completed within the last 2 yrs and evidence in the form of a letter or certificate issued by the university Registrar’s office will need to be provided.
The course is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).
A Master of Nursing degree provides an entry to a Doctorate at a University and graduates are also highly sought after for positions across the spectrum of available careers. Graduates take up roles in for example, in nursing practice development units advancing evidence based practice and the translation of research into practice.
