General knowledge of Education at primary level.

The course aims to develop the skills and knowledge to prepare students for teaching in the primary specialisation. The course provides students with the opportunity to engage in educational research at an appropriate level as preparation for future higher degree study.

The students in year three of the Bachelor of Education (Primary) course are able to express their interest in undertaking the final year as an honours student. Such students who have attained a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.50 on their complete year 3 results as well as having demonstrated high proficiency in teaching practice may then be invited to join the honours program. In addition, students should have gained a Credit result or better in the research method unit ESP318 in semester 2 of year 3. It should be noted that the minimum GPA may be raised at the discretion of the Head of school.

Articulation to or from the course can be awarded to the students from other universities with prerequisites acceptable to the Faculty may be accepted as candidates for the Bachelor of Education (Primary) With Honours,Research Higher degrees.Upon completion of the course the student may obtain for a Teacher Registration(Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board).

Upon the successful completion of this course the students will be eligible for employment as Primary School teachers. Employment opportunities in other communication-based careers have been obtained by past graduates. A first class or second class upper division award within this course provides a pathway into doctoral level study.
