This kind of program prepares students to practise competently in a variety of maternity settings, in accordance with the international defined role and scope of practice of the midwife. The Master component will provide graduates with a basis for advanced studies in areas such as midwifery, family and child health and women's health. The Australian College of Midwives (ACM) is the peak professional body for midwifes in Australia and strives to maximise the quality of midwifery and maternity care for Australian women and their families. ACM has a philosophy of midwifery that is founded on respect for women and considers women in pregnancy, during childbirth and early parenting to be undertaking healthy processes that are profound and precious events in each woman's life.The course is taught predominantly online for accessing to a computer personally and internet facilities is essential for learning and teaching purposes.
Basic knowledge and application about Midwifery.
Development of advanced skills in clinical supervision, teaching and mentorship and increasing undestanding of the complex issues in midwifery practice is involved as major concept of study.
To be eligible for entry into the Upgrade to Graduate Diploma pathway of the course applicants shall be currently registered as a nurse with Australian Health Professional Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Applicants must be registered as a midwife with AHPRA OR have completed a tertiary qualification in nursing or equivalent OR havequalifications and experience deemed by the Faculty of Health Science to be equivalent to above.Attend for interview and satisfactorily complete examinations and practical tests as required by the SNM.Produce evidence of recent nursing experience in an appropriate care setting Students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery must demonstrate compliance with the Faculty of Health Science and the School of Nursing and Midwifery policies relevant to workplace based learning.
The Mildred Hansen Prize in Midwifery,the prize will be awarded to the student who has successfully completed the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery course with the highest overall results, including both curriculum based units and practicums. The annual value of the prize will be $500 or any greater amount determined by the selection committee, having regard to the income from the endowment. Riawunna Centre offers a wide range of services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their communities in Tasmania. Riawunna assists all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are studying at the University of Tasmania.The graduates may be recognized by the Nursing Boards or Midwifery Organisations. This course is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).
