APSI Institute

This course is designed to provide training to students who want to work in residential aged care facilities and for community care. Students who undertake this qualification will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to provide services to individuals with special or complex needs and work with the elderly and disabled to lead more dignified lives. This course combines both theory and practical training. Students will also learn to organize and supervise social and cultural activates, assist with administrative tasks, provide support and assistance with residents daily routine and sort and clean equipment. A combination of face-to-face delivery, self-paced learning and workplace training. The course objective is to assist students with self-paced learning, the re-enforcements of face-to-face delivery and to generate a wider learning community for all students. International Students need to attend supervised studies on campus for 4 hours per week.

Major studies include development of skills related to care-giving career. Major studies focuses on developing the skills needed to carry out activities in the maintenance, management and personal care of our senior citizens, as well as providing emotional support and companionship.
This program is nationally recognized under the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) at Certificate III level. As a registered training organization, qualifications issued by Australian Professional Skills Institute are Nationally Recognized.
Up on completion of graduation, Students will be able to competently undertake autonomous work and team leadership within aged care residential and center- based services. Students will know how to assess service needs of older people with complex needs, plan and monitor service delivery, undertake relevant administrative work, plan and conduct group activities, implement and monitor OH&S policies and procedures, conduct recreation programs for older people, and organize an effective work environment. Workers at this level may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a limited number of other workers. This qualification may lead to the positions of: Assistant in Nursing (AIN), Personal Care Assistant (PCA), Aged care worker, Community Support Worker, Care, Home Care Assistant, Care Assistant and Disability Support Worker.
