Honors is a fourth year of study, during which students will conduct a research project and write a thesis under the supervision of one of the faculty's expert researchers. Admission is competitive, and candidates who are offered a place in the honors year must have demonstrated consistent, high level performance throughout their studies, become eligible for the award of a pass degree at a commendable standard, and be judged to have the aptitude to conduct an independent research project. Honors study will allow students to develop research skills and make a significant contribution to the development of knowledge within the profession. From the existing research areas, students may be able to nominate their topics of interest and depending on demand may receive their preferred allocation.
Physics and chemistry. Recommended studies: mathematics.
Major studies focus on prevention, assessment and treatment of human movement disorders. Physiotherapy services are used in a wide variety of areas such as health care organizations, private practices, schools and community, sports and workplace settings.
To qualify for admission to the honours year a student must: have qualified for the pass degree of Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy), or an equivalent qualification, have a WAM of at least 65 in that course, and have the permission of the relevant head of department/ discipline/ program coordinator. While a WAM of 65 is the minimum eligibility requirement, it does not guarantee entry.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) bceome eligible to apply for registration as physiotherapists with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) are qualified to work as physiotherapists. There are a diverse range of career options available in both the public and private sectors, in settings such as health care organisations, sports, schools and community, and private practices. Some graduates work in health education and promotion to specific groups.
