Honors is a two year program integrated into the undergraduate speech pathology course. Students will conduct a research project and write a thesis under the supervision of one of the faculty's expert researchers. Students with a distinction average plus are invited to apply for honors during semester two of their second year. Successful applicants enter the honors program in the third year of their course and finish in second semester, fourth year. Honors study will allow students to develop research skills and make a significant contribution to the development of knowledge within the profession.

Major studies focuses on development of skills related to communication difficulties, including problems with speaking, comprehension, reading, writing, voice problems and stuttering. Speech pathologists also work with children and adults who have swallowing difficulties or need alternative ways to communicate.
To qualify for admission to the honours program a student must: be enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) Pass degree and have failed no units in the first 2 years of study, have a WAM of at least 75 in that course, and have the permission of the relevant head of department/ discipline/ program coordinator.
The Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) degree is accredited by Speech Pathology Australia.Admission to this course is on the basis of a secondary school leaving qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents), tertiary study or an approved preparation program.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) are qualified to work as speech pathologists. Speech pathologists work in diverse settings (hospitals, private practice, schools and early childhood services) to assess and treat individuals who may present with a wide variety of communication disorders.
