The Bachelor of Applied Science (Property and Valuation) gives good grounding to specialise in property valuation as well the broader property profession.Property is about more than just houses. Property decisions can lead to major allocations of resources (land, labour and capital). It is critical you have a good understanding of different aspects of the property industry, including development, valuation, investment and management.You will undertake 18 property-related courses within a broad business and management context that offers you a breadth of variety and specialisation of knowledge. You will develop understanding and the ability to identify, analyse and resolve problems relating to all aspects of the property profession. As a property professional you will understand the features and characteristics of the diverse range of property types and property investment instruments.As a valuer you will deal with all aspects of property valuation, including land and all improvements – like buildings, fences, landscaping - in all asset classes including residential, commercial, retail, industrial, special purpose and rural.

In this course the features and characteristics of the diverse range of property types and property investment instruments are also studied.
Student must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 65%.For information on international qualifications and corresponding entry requirements that are equivalent to an Australian Year 12, see the Entry requirements by country web page.Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
This program is accredited by the Australian Property Institute (API) which has reciprocity agreements with countries like Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore, and membership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) which is recognised worldwide. The program provides the academic base for membership. The API bodies also require applicants to have work experience, and meet other membership criteria.
Roles that graduates will undertake include: Property fund managers/asset managers - responsible for the strategy of a large portfolio of investment properties like shopping centres, office buildings or industrial complexes. They can make decisions and recommendations to their employer or clients on property portfolio management and property investment/finance matters. Property developers - involved in the various property development stages, from the initial proposal to the disposal of the developed property. The process and activities require entrepreneurial flair, risk and patience. Graduates can opt for self-employment or working for small to large organisations to maximise land holdings. Property researchers - employed by private organisations like real estate companies, insurance companies, property developers, banks and other financial institutions, or by government departments. They may also be self-employed as private consultants.
