The building design program focuses on the design, presentation and documentation processes for building projects that engage with the site, user needs and the environment.This hands-on program develops your skill sets through a variety of learning experiences directly relevant to the practices of building design professionals.Youll learn to communicate and work effectively with regulators, authorities and the wide range of consultants associated with the design, construction and servicing of buildings.Youll contribute to the improvement and future of the built environment through design solutions that engage with traditional and emerging community needs.
Basic study of physics and Mathematics
In this course the major studies include the design, presentation and documentation processes for building projects that engage with the site, user needs and the environment. Studies related to communication and work effectively with regulators, authorities and the wide range of consultants associated with the design, construction and servicing of buildings are also studied.
Student must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 50%.For information on international qualifications and corresponding entry requirements that are equivalent to an Australian Year 12, see the Entry requirements by country web page.Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary Diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
The program is a state-accredited and nationally recognised qualification that enables graduate building designers to work for registered building practitioners, architects and other design professionals in related industries.The Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) is required by the Building Practitioners Board to register to practice as a building designer in the state of Victoria.
Graduates are placed in architectural practices, building and building design offices.If you plan to register as a building practitioner and practice as a sole practitioner, youll need to meet the requirements set out in the Building Amendment Regulations 2009 to qualify to register in the category Building Design DP-AD (Architectural). Graduates of an Advanced Diploma in building design from a course accredited under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 need to complete 1 years practical experience supervised by a registered architect, builder or building designer to the satisfaction of the Building Practitioners Board.
