In this course principles, techniques and regulations of the building and construction industry for all types of medium-rise and wide-span buildings, including buildings up to 25 metres high is studied . This practical program incorporates hands-on work and project-based learning. The student will experience many aspects of building projects and understand how these relate to each other.

In this course the major studies include the principles, techniques and regulations of the building and construction industry for all types of medium-rise and wide-span buildings, including buildings up to 25 metres high.
Student must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 50%.For information on international qualifications and corresponding entry requirements that are equivalent to an Australian Year 12, see the Entry requirements by country web page.Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary Diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
Once youve completed this Diploma, you can apply to the Building Commission for an interview to be granted qualifications as a Registered Building Practitioner (domestic builder and/or commercial builder).Weve developed this program in response to industry needs and its recognised by building and construction industry organisations like: the Master Builders, Association of Victoria, the Housing Industry Association of Victoria, the Australian Institute of Building (who consider that completing this program fulfils the requirement for associate membership).
You can expect to be employed at middle management level in the building industry, in areas like:building construction, supervision and management, estimating, purchasing, contracts administration. You may also find employment in other related fields, either on a building site or in a head office environment. In time, you may start your own business. We have a strong record of second year students (approximate 70%) gaining building industry employment while still completing their studies.
