In this course graduates will contribute to knowledge in chosen field of research and to the research coming out of the School of Art. This program provides an understanding of pure and applied research methodologies underpinning practice-based research projects. Fine art candidates pursue research in a chosen field through a project and an exegesis of 20,000 to 40,000 words (or appropriate alternative). The research is assessed by external examiners, usually in the form of a one-person public

The major studies include development of knowledge in a chosen field of research.
One of the following: Successful completion of an Australian Masters by Research degree or equivalent, Successful completion of an Australian Masters by Coursework degree or equivalent WITH a research component graded as a distinction (GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00), Successful completion of an Australian Bachelor (Honours) degree graded as first or second class (over 70% or GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00). Entry into a Research program at RMIT is not based solely on academic achievement and applicants must meet the following minimum academic requirements to be considered for candidature.
This course is accredited by ASIC (Accreditation Service for International Colleges) as a Premier Institution for its degree programs. Student passing this course from RMIT university holds various other accreditations from the Association of Business Executives (ABE) and the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.
Graduates are employed in senior positions in universities, galleries, museums, non-government organisations and art organisations and companies. Graduates also freelance as artists, writers, curators and producers and work as Research Fellows and Post Doctoral Research Fellows on research projects in government organisations.
4 years full-time or 8 years part-time.International student visa holders can only study full-time.
