RMIT University

This double degree brings together chemical engineering science, practice and design with pharmaceutical science with a focus on industrial applications. Pharmaceutical sciences are complemented by chemical engineering for the production, development and manufacturing of drugs and related products. This double degree includes microbiology, therapeutics, pharmacology, drug research and core aspects of chemical engineering. Mathematics and chemistry are common to both degrees. Chemical engineering will develop communication, project planning, teamwork and leadership skills through problem-based learning while pharmaceutical science builds skills in creativity, critical analysis and specialist knowledge. The combination of two degrees will prepare to deal with complex projects and issues in research and development and maximise benefits of scientific discoveries to society.
Higher Mathematics or VCE Units 3 and 4 Chemistry and Mathematical Methods (CAS).
The major studies include Mathematics, chemistry ,microbiology, therapeutics, pharmacology, drug research and core aspects of chemical engineering.
Student must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 70%.For information on international qualifications and corresponding entry requirements that are equivalent to an Australian Year 12, see the Entry requirements by country web page. Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
Graduates are eligible for graduate membership of: Engineers Australia, Institution of Chemical Engineers, UK, Association of Regulatory and Clinical Scientists to the Pharmaceutical Industry (ARCS), AusBiotech, Australasian Pharmaceutical Science Association (APSA).
Graduates are employed in the chemical, pharmaceutical, drug manufacture, biotechnology and food industries and the process design sector. As an engineer, student typically work on scaling up from the lab to large-scale, design and commissioning of new equipment and existing process improvement.Chemical engineers also work in natural resource management, the water industry, mining and petroleum industries.
5 years full-time ,International student visa holders can only study full-time.
