Students must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 70%. For information on international qualifications and corresponding entry requirements that are equivalent to an Australian Year 12, see the Entry requirements by country web page. Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
The Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) is accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Graduates are entitled to associate membership of all the professional accounting bodies: CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants, provided auditing and taxation subjects are passed. Student must then undertake the chosen professional bodys qualification program and gain 3 years relevant practical experience to gain full membership. In addition, living and working in countries like China, Hong Kong, Singapore or Malaysia give graduates the option of applying for entry into the final stages of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification program. Industry and professional representatives actively participate in the Program Advisory Committee which ensures that links with industry standards and international business practice remain current.
About one-third of graduates gain employment in public accounting practices, supporting staff teams in areas like auditing, taxation, management consulting, business services and receivership. Others are recruited into commercial and government organisations in treasury, internal audit, strategic business planning, financial reporting and management accounting roles. The job prospects for accounting students and graduates are excellent. A 2010 survey by Graduate Careers Australia found 26.8% of accounting graduates enjoyed full-time work in their final year and were still with the same employer 4 months after graduation—it was 15.7% across all disciplines. The survey also found that 79.1% of all accounting graduates seeking full-time employment .
