A rigorous and stimulating accounting program designed to give ability to make key business decisions and identify, measure, analyze and communicate economic information. Accountancy as a profession involves recording, classifying, summarizing and interpreting financial transactions and events, and is frequently used by lenders, managers, investors, tax authorities and other decision-makers. During this program Student will have the chance to develop essential skills required to operate successfully in contemporary business and contribute to the future of professionally qualified and broadly trained accountants.
Current Year 12 prerequisite units 3 and 4—a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English.
In this course the major studies include identifying, measuring, analyzing and communication of economic information is involved.
Student must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 75%. For information on international qualifications and corresponding entry requirements that are equivalent to an Australian Year 12, see the Entry requirements by country web page. Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
The Bachelor of Business (Professional Accountancy) is accredited by CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.Graduates are entitled to associate membership of all the professional accounting bodies: CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants, provided auditing and taxation subjects are passed. To gain full membership graduate must undertake the chosen professional bodys qualification program and gain three years relevant practical experience.In addition, living and working in countries such as China, Hong Kong, Singapore or Malaysia gives graduates the option of applying for entry into the final stages of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification program.
About one-third of graduates gain employment in public accounting practices, supporting staff teams in areas such as auditing, taxation, management consulting, business services and receivership. Others are recruited into commercial and government organizations in treasury, internal audit, strategic business planning, financial reporting and management accounting roles.The job prospects for accounting students and graduates are excellent. A 2010 survey by Graduate Careers Australia found 26.8% of accounting graduates enjoyed full-time work in their final year and were still with the same employer 4 months after graduation - it was 15.7% across all disciplines. The survey also found that 79.1% of all accounting graduates seeking full-time employment had found it.
