The Graduate diploma in Art Curatorship is designed to train the art curators and gallery professionals of the future. Through a structured program of core and elective units, Students will gain an advanced understanding of the full range of cultural, theoretical, social, political and economic issues underlying the art gallery and museum. Sophisticated training will be offered to prepare students to work as art curators, educators, collection managers, administrators, critics, dealers and valuers.system. Students will also gain an in-depth understanding of the important role of art and art curatorship to the museum and gallery industry, the crucial public role of the art museum (past, present and future), the arts industry and the business of art, and curatorial practices of a national, regional and international perspective.

Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in Art Curatorship requires:(a) a bachelor’s degree with a minimum credit (60%) average, from the University of Sydney, including a major in a relevant subject area in the humanities, or an equivalent qualification; or (b) completion of the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Art Curatorship with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification.
The Graduate Diploma in Art Curatorship trains graduates to work in the visual arts industry as professionals - curators, educators, collection managers, administrators, art advisors, critics, dealers and valuers. The degree also offers opportunity for extended study for people already working in the visual arts industry, who may want to develop their career prospects.Visual arts professionals in mid-career, including art teachers, curators, art librarians, arts administrators, art auctioneers, art writers and gallery workers, are encouraged to apply.Art Curatorship can also function as a 'career change' degree for those interested in moving into the visual arts industry.Career opportunities and industry links include working in the gallery sector, museum sector, arts administration sector, planning exhibitions and public arts events, curating, writing, publishing, and teaching in the arts and cultural industry; both nationally and internationally.
