This program prepares student for being a mental health nurse. In this course student will study advanced individual and group counselling, mental health treatment, contemporary nursing issues and research.RMIT Nursing and Midwifery is one of the oldest providers of nursing education in Australia and sits at the forefront of nursing education and research.
Minimum 1 year of nursing experience within the last 5 years (840 hours supervised clinical practice in the field of Mental Health). Hold current registration (or be eligible for registration) as a Nurse in Division 1 or 3 of the Nurses & Midwifery Board
In this course major studies include development of skills related to advanced individual and group counselling, mental health treatment, contemporary nursing issues and research.
Completion of an Australian bachelor degree or equivalent in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
Student can join the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and cite this qualification as part of application for credentialing. Credentialed mental health nurses can be funded for employment under the Mental Health Nurse Incentive Program. Graduates can apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia which will allow student to obtain a provider number for private practice or practice in any Australian state or territory. To register student need English languages skills at IELTS academic level 7 or equivalent within the 2 years prior to registration.
Graduates pursue careers in mental health nursing in a wide range of hospital and community settings across metropolitan and rural areas.
