A deeper understanding of the legal system will reward student with many more future options. This program studies law in its widest social and political context and how it works here and globally. Student will study law from various perspectives, including: sociology, politics, policy and social psychology, the mechanisms for change in our legal system. Student will cover family law, welfare law, civil procedure and alternative dispute resolution, including mediation in detail. Student will study electives in criminal law, commercial law and juvenile justice. Student will develop knowledge and skills in legal problem solving, alternative dispute resolution, mediation and policy analysis, and discover the growing significance of human rights in legal practice, government, business and the community.

In this course the major studies include detailed study related to sociology, politics, policy and social psychology, the mechanisms for change in legal system ,family law, welfare law, civil procedure and alternative dispute resolution, including mediation in detail. Development of knowledge and skills in legal problem solving, alternative dispute resolution, mediation and policy analysis, and discover the growing significance of human rights in legal practice, government, business and the community is also involved.
Student must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or an equivalent senior secondary school qualification with a minimum average of 70%. For information on international qualifications and corresponding entry requirements that are equivalent to an Australian Year 12, see the Entry requirements by country web page.Equivalent qualifications may also include completion of the RMIT Foundation Studies program or a recognised post secondary diploma in the relevant discipline with the required grades.
Graduates work in administration and research within a legal context or as human rights and community workers in government and non-government agencies, or go on to further studies in law, mediation and negotiation. Employment opportunities are primarily in the paralegal field for roles as dispute resolution professionals and in relevant policy positions in: private firms, government departments, corporations, legal aid, council legal offices, tribunals, activist organisations, community legal services.
3 years full-time or 6 years part-time, International student visa holders can only study full-time.
