This course is suitable for educators across a wide range of fields - early childhood, primary and secondary education, vocational education and training and development, higher and professional education, supervisors, coordinators, administrators, teachers' assistants and Aboriginal and Islander education officers.The Department of Education has developed a number of pathways within this course. At admission and enrolment, Students will negotiate with the course coordinator to ensure students to undertake an appropriate mix of units based on experience and prior qualifications to ensure students to receive the most of education.
Literacy and numeracy skills are an important prerequisite to teaching and students are required to demonstrate competence, however, additional support will be provided to speakers of English as a second language.
This course is open only to qualified educators (including teachers or other educational and training personnel). Admission typically requires a three-year Bachelor of Arts (Education) or equivalent. As a non school leaver, to be eligible to study a bachelor degree at Curtin, Students normally need to have graduated from high school with the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), or an equivalent qualification, and gained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) that satisfies Curtin's entry requirements.
Education conversion courses give an edge over the normal courses with dual knowledge of major subjects. With such mixtures of courses the candidate remains open for alternatives of either/or on the majors which the candidates chose. Market orientation is also high for such candidates. Employers prefer these candidates over the specialised ones as they can multi task on the activities of the major which they had taken.
