This double degree course is designed to develop expertise in both health promotion and occupational health and safety. Health promotion maintains and improves the health of populations by developing people’s skills and knowledge, working with communities, creating healthy environments, changing policies and laws to support healthy choices and encouraging health services to promote health.Health and safety is concerned with the prevention of injury and disease in the workplace by providing safer, healthier and more efficient working conditions and assisting injured staff through workers’ compensation and rehabilitation processes. In first year, Students will gain a foundation in the fundamentals of health promotion, and health, safety and environment . The occupational health and safety component of the second, third and fourth years is designed to equip students with the skills needed to contribute proactively to risk management and assessment, and the prevention of injuries and disease in the workplace. Students will also study the role of the health and safety professional when working with employers, workers, commercial organisations, government and other health professionals. In following years, Students will also study the planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion programs while exploring specific areas of health promotion practice. Students will also study the role of the health promotion professional when working in partnership with communities, organisations, government and with other health professionals.
At least English 2A/2B, Literature 2A/2B or English as an Additional Language/Dialect 2A/2B . At least one science course at level 2A/2B.
In this course the major studies includes development of expertise in both health promotion and occupational health and safety.also the major study involves the detail study of public health, Indigenous health, research ,chemistry ,physics , human biology, professional communication skills, how health professionals work together to improve and protect health and wellbeing.
To be eligible to this course students normally need to have graduated from high school with the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), or an equivalent qualification, and gained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) that satisfies Curtin's entry requirements. Your year 12 exam result remains valid indefinitely. Scores dating back to 1992 (including the TEA out of 400 and the TES out of 510) can be converted to the current ranking, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), with the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre ATAR calculator.The other eligibilty criteria includes:- 1) Successful completion of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). 2)  Successful completion of the Alternative Test for Adult Admission (prior to STAT). 3)  Successful completion of the Mature age Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE). 4)   General Certification of Education (advanced levels). 5)  TAFE or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications. 6) Current Division 1 General or Mental Health Nursing Registration with a State Nursing Board in Australia. 7) Successful completion of the first year of a bachelor degree course at another Australian university. 8) Successful completion of two Curtin full degree level units via extension study and English competence. 9) Successful completion of two degree level units via Open Universities Australia (OUA) and English competence. 10)Successful completion of two degree level units at an Australian university and English competence.
Graduates become eligible for membership of the Australian Health Promotion Association, the Public Health Association of Australia and the Safety Institute of Australia.
This course can help to become a: 1)  Occupational Health and Safety Officer. 2) Health Promotion Officer.Health promotion employers may include government, non-government and community-based organisations such as Heart Foundation , Cancer Council of WA , Diabetes WA, Injury Control Council of WA, Drug and Alcohol Office, WA AIDS Council ,Department of Health,local government.Health and safety employers include: 1)government organisations such as local government and Worksafe.2)   private companies, particularly in the industry and resources sectors.
