Curtin university

This course will equip students with the skills, qualification and confidence needed to succeed in an undergraduate course at Curtin. Students will be immersed in the university environment while students are prepared for mainstream studies. Through this course we will provide students with the skills needed to make the transition into a university undergraduate degree course. Students will also gain valuable communication skills, and independent learning and study techniques required for success in tertiary studies. The course will provide students with support, knowledge and skills while promoting a strong sense of Aboriginality in a way which values cultural background.
Good genaral knowledge and communication skills.
The major studies include further Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination and self-management, promote a positive sense of Indigenous identity, culture and heritage and increase career potential through degree programs. Students will also undertake units in Indigenous studies, numeracy, communications and a choice of either humanities, science or art-based units.
Available only to applicants of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who have not completed secondary school or who have completed Year 12 but not to a sufficiently high standard to enter tertiary study. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age to enter the course. Mature age people are actively encouraged to apply.Applicants will be required to attend an interview at Curtin.
On successful completion of this course students will become eligible for entry into a range of Curtin's degree and associate degree programs.Since this course was established in 1976 it has helped hundreds of Aboriginal students enter university.This course provides students with a solid basis for further study or work opportunities.The short duration of this course is beneficial to many students who wish to fast-track their education.
