Studying international relations can help to prepare students for working on projects with international scope and in making well-informed decisions. Students can also gain perspectives from political science, Asian studies, anthropology and sociology, history and geography. This course focuses on current international topics and issues, and covers:  political theory, international relations theory, foreign policy, strategic studies, political history. You will explore national and regional security in broad contexts including military, politics and economics. Students can also study political and regional globalisation, with an emphasis on Asia and look at issues of trade, environmental change, resource management and human rights. International Relations is offered as part of the Bachelor of Arts. Students can enhance studies with a secondary major or choose from a range of elective units to support your career goals.
At least English 2A/2B, Literature 2A/2B or English as an Additional Language/Dialect 2A/2B.A TAFE certificate IV and evidence of English competency or a TAFE diploma.
In this course the major studies includes development of skills in problem solving and written and oral communications. Student will also study International Relations as part of a double major with: History, Japanese, Journalism, Geography (Sustainable Development), Anthropology and Sociology, Asian Studies, Business Law (Business), Chinese , Economics (Business).International Relations is offered as part of the Bachelor of Arts. Students can enhance studies with a secondary major or choose from a range of elective units to support your career goals. Students can also study international Relations as part of the Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Arts double degree. When coupled with Business Law or Economics  students can complete this major as part of our Bachelor of Arts or our Bachelor of Commerce.
To be eligible to this course students should normally need to have graduated from high school with the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), or an equivalent qualification, and gained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) that satisfies Curtin's entry requirements. Year 12 exam result remains valid indefinitely. Scores dating back to 1992 (including the TEA out of 400 and the TES out of 510) can be converted to the current ranking, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), with the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre ATAR calculator.The other eligibilty criteria includes:- 1) Successful completion of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). 2)  Successful completion of the Alternative Test for Adult Admission (prior to STAT). 3)  Successful completion of the Mature age Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE). 4)   General Certification of Education (advanced levels). 5)  TAFE or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications. 6) Current Division 1 General or Mental Health Nursing Registration with a State Nursing Board in Australia. 7) Successful completion of the first year of a bachelor degree course at another Australian university. 8) Successful completion of two Curtin full degree level units via extension study and English competence. 9) Successful completion of two degree level units via Open Universities Australia (OUA) and English competence. 10)Successful completion of two degree level units at an Australian university and English competence.

Careers in this field can include security analysis and policy with Departments of Defence and Foreign Affairs and Trade, intelligence analysis and research analysis, and in roles such as: executives in energy companies,  policy officers in law enforcement agencies and non-government organisations , areas of international finance and management , the media ,education. Students can also gain perspectives from political science, anthropology and sociology ,Asian studies, history and geography.
