A background in marketing provides students with the understanding and skills needed to align customer needs to an organization’s output of goods, services or information. A strong understanding of marketing principles is essential for any marketing position, as customer sales ultimately determine the success of an organization. Students will consider how a customer-centric focus ensures the demand for an organization’s output continues to grow in a globally competitive environment. The Marketing major includes study in areas such as consumer behavior, promotion, advertising, market research, project and channel management and strategic marketing. This major is taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops, and other in-class activities. Undertaking a Marketing major at UWA involves studying with one of the best group of marketing academics in the country, with expertise in such areas as services marketing, not-for-profit and social marketing, marketing communication and marketing innovation. A Marketing major leads to careers in areas such as marketing management, advertising, sales management, distribution control, product development and branding, new venture creation and marketing research or consulting. Students can find employment in all industry sectors including not-for-profit, private and public organizations.
