Marketing has one of the most important functions in a successful business. To gain an advantage, companies must differentiate themselves from their competitors. They work out how they may persuade their target audience to buy their product or services.Marketing is a dynamic blend of: advertising, promotions, public relations, sales strategies. Together, these features help to promote the organisation’s brand, product or service.Marketing suits people who wonder what makes people think and behave the way they do, who enjoy working with people and in teams, have strong organisational skills and want a career that is interesting and diverse. Roles may be in fundraising, market research, product management, marketing communications and brand strategy, and online marketing in areas such as developing online strategy, search engine optimisation, and social media and networking.
At least English 2A/2B, Literature 2A/2B or English as an Additional Language/Dialect 2A/2B.Mathematics 2C/2D.
This major provides with an understanding of the role marketing plays in creating customer value.Students will also have the chance to explore the diverse field of marketing, including:international and internet marketing, sales management, researchproduct, pricing and promotion strategies, distribution strategies.Students can also analyse the behaviour of competitors and customers to discover how marketing can be used to predict customer demand for products, services or ideas .Study will also involve interaction with industry groups as many of the units focus on real clients and case studies. There are opportunities for industry experience and professional placement to increase interaction with industry while study.Curtin Marketing graduates can also join the Australian Marketing Institute and the Australian Institute of Management to increase career opportunities through networking and regular events.Marketing is offered as part of the Bachelor of Commerce. Students can also enhance studies with a secondary major or choose from a range of elective units to support career goals.
To be eligible to this course students normally need to have graduated from high school with the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), or an equivalent qualification, and gained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) that satisfies Curtin's entry requirements. Your year 12 exam result remains valid indefinitely. Scores dating back to 1992 (including the TEA out of 400 and the TES out of 510) can be converted to the current ranking, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), with the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre ATAR calculator.The other eligibilty criteria includes:- 1) Successful completion of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). 2)  Successful completion of the Alternative Test for Adult Admission (prior to STAT). 3)  Successful completion of the Mature age Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE). 4)   General Certification of Education (advanced levels). 5)  TAFE or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications. 6) Current Division 1 General or Mental Health Nursing Registration with a State Nursing Board in Australia. 7) Successful completion of the first year of a bachelor degree course at another Australian university. 8) Successful completion of two Curtin full degree level units via extension study and English competence. 9) Successful completion of two degree level units via Open Universities Australia (OUA) and English competence. 10)Successful completion of two degree level units at an Australian university and English competence.
Graduates may receive recognition from a range of professional bodies such as the Australian Institute of Management, the Australian Marketing Institute, theInstitute of Public Administration Australia, Marketing Research Institute of Australia, the Professional Sales and Marketing Institute and the Public Relations Institute of Australia.
This course can help to become a: Marketing Officer, Market Researcher, Events Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, Market Research Analyst, Product Manager, Online Marketing Specialist, Marketing Communications Manager. Students will also interact with industry while study as many units focus on real clients.The Curtin Marketing Association, a student group, will help students to build social, academic and industry-based relationships and skills.Industry experience and professional placement opportunities reinforce learning.
