Paramedics are on the front line of medical care. They respond to emergency calls from the public and provide pre-hospital treatment, often in high-pressure environments and circumstances. It is a challenging career where life-changing decisions are made on a regular basis.Curtin's paramedicine major addresses the changing healthcare environment, with an interprofessional health focus and specialised fieldwork experience. Graduates may work as ambulance officers, in education and training, in clinical guidance and governance, management or in industrial health.To complete the four-year degree program,Students must meet all academic and on-road practical requirements and maintain employment with St John Ambulance WA as an ambulance officer.Students will also graduate as a degree-qualified St John Ambulance paramedic.

In this course the major study is available as part of the Bachelor of Science (Health Sciences) degree. The first year of the degree is undertaken as an interprofessional first year with other students studying within Health Sciences.The major starts in second year, and core units include:Applied Paramedic Bioscience,Behavioural Health Science for Nursing,ehavioural Health Science for Nursing and Midwifery,Paramedic Professional Practice,Paramedicine Capstone,Paramedicine Clinical Practice,Practice of Public Health.
The eligibility criteria to study a bachelor degree at Curtin, you normally need to have graduated from high school with the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE), or an equivalent qualification, and gained an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) that satisfies Curtin's entry requirements. Your year 12 exam result remains valid indefinitely. Scores dating back to 1992 (including the TEA out of 400 and the TES out of 510) can be converted to the current ranking, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), with the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre ATAR calculator.The other eligibilty criteria includes:- 1) Successful completion of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). 2)  Successful completion of the Alternative Test for Adult Admission (prior to STAT). 3)  Successful completion of the Mature age Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE). 4)   General Certification of Education (advanced levels). 5)  TAFE or Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications. 6) Current Division 1 General or Mental Health Nursing Registration with a State Nursing Board in Australia. 7) Successful completion of the first year of a bachelor degree course at another Australian university. 8) Successful completion of two Curtin full degree level units via extension study and English competence. 9) Successful completion of two degree level units via Open Universities Australia (OUA) and English competence. 10)Successful completion of two degree level units at an Australian university and English competence.
On successful completion of this degree, Students become eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.Paramedicine programs are accredited by the Council of Ambulance Authorities (CAA). Programs accredited as such are given preference by state ambulance authorities when selecting applicants. Graduates are eligible for membership of Paramedics Australasia. This degree aims to build upon skills and knowledge acquired in Diploma courses. Providing a platform for broadening career options and entry into postgraduate studies, it will develop a proactive and adaptable graduate who will be a competent, ethical clinician. Students will graduate with the disciplinary foundations necessary to contribute to a healthier Australian society. Graduates will have a deeper understanding of the challenges and complexities of what makes populations healthy and what makes them sick.
A variety of postgraduate studies in paramedicine will be available to graduates on completion of this degree.Graduates of the Bachelor of Paramedicine ( Professional Entry) may be eligible to work in the following areas:- Clinical education and supervision, Administration, Provide graduates with the competencies for entry into a wide range of roles in the field of pre-hospital care.
