The University of Sydney (commonly referred to as Sydney University,USyd,or Sydney) is an Australian public university in Sydney.Founded in 1850,it is Australia's first university and is regarded as one of its most prestigious, ranked as the 27th most reputable university in the world.The University comprises 16 faculties and schools, through which it offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.The University is also colloquially known as one of Australia's sandstone universities.

 EVENTS, TALKS & ACTIVITIES

The University of Sydney is not just for students and researchers. We contribute to our local, national and international community life through a wide range of public programs, lectures and courses. Recently, we completed another year of successful partnership with Sydney Festival, in which our current students, staff and alumni all had important roles to play. Sydney Ideas is the only public lecture series hosted by an Australian university, and attracts globally prominent speakers like Tim Flannery and Robert Fisk to address the key issues facing today's world. Speakers for 2012 include Guy Standing, Sara Ahmed, David Lyon, Javier Cercas and Jean and John Comaroff.


CAMPUSES

The University of Sydney has a network of teaching campuses spread throughout the Sydney area. The main Camper down/Darlington campus is well known as the home of our historic sandstone buildings, gargoyles and cloisters, lawns and courtyards. But this is just one part of the picture. Across our campuses the University has lecture theatres, teaching spaces and studios with state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories with the latest technology, clinical schools to support professional development and experimental farms and research stations to put theory into practice.






RESEARCH CENTRES

Our research is driven by the big picture. We take a problem and look at it from all angles, combining the expertise and talents of scholars from multiple disciplines. Sydney is home to several interdisciplinary research centres and programs. Through the Sydney Research Networks Scheme (SyReNS) we provide funding and support to develop large and productive collaborations that enable high quality multi-disciplinary research.

The University of Sydney (commonly referred to as Sydney University, Sydney Uni, USYD, or Sydney) is an Australian public research university in Sydney. Founded in 1850, it is Australia's first university and is regarded as one of its most prestigious, ranked as the world's 27th most reputable university. In 2013, it was ranked 37th and in the top 0.3% in the QS World University Rankings. Five Nobel and two Crafoord laureates have been affiliated with the university as graduates and faculty. Its campus is ranked in the top 10 of the world's most beautiful universities by the British Daily Telegraph and The Huffington Post, spreading across the inner-city suburbs of Camperdown and Darlington.

The university comprises 16 faculties and schools, through which it offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. In 2011 it had 32,393 undergraduate and 16,627 graduate students.

Sydney University is a member of the prestigious Group of Eight, Academic Consortium 21, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning, the Australia-Africa Universities Network (AAUN), the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the Worldwide Universities Network. The University is also colloquially known as one of Australia's sandstone universities.
